Because we won't get to see each other face to face, it is incredibly important that we take a little time to get to know one another. I'd like you to respond to this post (by clicking on the comment button) and tell us a little bit about yourself. I'm purposely being vague here because I want to see what you share (though remember we do have a public blog:)). I'm also interested in why you decided to take your ENG 1302 course online, so if you don't mind, add a bit about that as well.
As for me, I'm Jonikka, though you should feel free to call me Dr. Jonikka if that makes you more comfortable. I've been teaching for over 15 years, the last 6 here at UTPA. I direct the First-Year Writing Program, and this is my first time teaching an online class. We haven't done too many classes online because writing classes are so interactive, but I'm looking forward to seeing how we can make it work. I have two sons--Duncan, who just turned 6 two days ago, and Ian, who is 12. I'm married to Colin, who also teaches in the program, and I'll probably reference all of them at some point this semester:). I love to cook and am sad I won't be able to bring you guys cookies like I usually do in face to face classes. And I can't wait to get to know you and see what really cool work you're able to do. If you have questions about me, don't hesitate to ask. I can always decline to answer, but probably won't:)!

This is my first time ever taking an online class so please be patient with me as I am still confussed on how this works. I have a 5 year old daughter named Lanissa who is my world. I am very family oriented and love to take family vacations often. I am looking forward to this upcoming semester

I decided to take this class online because I knew that I would be travelling some during the semester and thought that this would be the best way to go about it.

I live with both my parents and have three siblings. This will be the second online course that i take online. I chose to take this course online because I am currently in California and will be for the next month.
ReplyDeleteHi my name is Caleb. I am a soon to be junior and a Computer Info Systems Major. I have a 4 month old son, and signed up for this course so I can spend more time at home. Since I am a technology enthusiast the idea of an online course was fascinating to me. After consideration, and reading through the syllabus though, I've decided to drop this course because I do not think I have enough self disciplined to commit to it. :( Instead I am enrolling in a conventional English class seeing that I come to campus for another class every morning anyways.

Hi everyone. My name is Raul, and I'm studying towards a Graphic Design degree. This will be my fourth year at UTPA. I'm into video games and internet browsing. With that in mind, I felt I would enjoy this course more if it was a part of my 'online world'. I also hate having to wake up early, and I haven't gotten to take a 'break' from school for a while, so although this course might not be a 'walk in the park', at least I'll be able to do things at a pace that's more to my liking.

Anyway this is going to be my 2nd yr at Pan Am I'm a Sophomore, my major is broadcast/journalism concentration in broadcast and minoring in tv/film. I am 19, but I turn 20 on August 28 the day before school starts. I play basketball for Pan Am also. I decided to take this class online because I wasn't going to be in Texas I live in Indiana plus I had surgery so I decided to stay home.

Hello my name is Sandra, I’m a sophomore here at UTPA. I’m pursuing my major in nursing. I work full time at UTPA (been working here for the past 14 years). I’m married and have 4 beautiful kids, ages 14 thru 6. I’m very family oriented, so I dedicate lots of time to my family, work, church and school, so have not much time left for anything else. I love to work on my garden and read (when I have the time). I’m taking this class on-line because it is more convenient for me due to my work schedule. I’m really looking forward to this new “blog” experience :)

I am married and have three girls who are 2,7, and 9 years old. I am taking any online classes that are available because they are more convenient in the way that I don't need to look for childcare, but at the same time requires a lot of self discipline. It's a win win situation. I'm a Junior and an Accounting major.

I am a Criminal Justice major but may change it, I enjoy learning about other cultures and countries, So maybe I can find something i can find something in that. (: I enjoy reading, writing, and movies. If I could i'd be at the movies everyday! Hehe. I took two online courses in the Spring (one was Eng 1301) and found them very easy for me to do and apply myself to. I also don't enjoy going to campus everyday or much at all so that was a contributing factor also. I enjoy technology, i've never blogged before so I am looking forward to to it! (:

I'm seeking a degree in Comm Sciences and Disorders. My career motives are to work in services dealing with therapy to help others. I enjoy doing many different things, always trying something new. Recently, I've started riding my bike to work since I don't have time to workout because of school, work, and kids, and so far has been going great.

Hi everyone! My name is Brenda I am currently a junior at UTPA, and pursuing a major as Speech Language Pathologist. I am a full time mother, to a 2 and 4 year old, a wife, and a full time student. So as you can imagine my life is pretty hectic. I am retaking this course to get a higher grade since I last took it in high school. This is my third online course, but i've never used Blogger so this is all new to me. I made the decision to take an online class because there is no way I could go to campus daily.

Hello. My name is Robert Hernandez and I am currently a sophomore at UTPA. I plan to get my bachelors degree in addiction studies and hopefully receive my masters as an occupational therapist. I decided to take this class online because this was the only class available for summer 2 from the classes that I need to graduate. Now that I am 24 years old, I am trying to finish as soon as possible so I can have a set career and be able start a family. Writing was always a weak subject of mine, but I intend to improve on it with this course.

I am currently a volunteer at a Girl Scout camp in Bayview, which is why I am taking this course and Sociology online this semester :) My birthday was yesterday! ReplyDeleteHI My name is Anna and I am a Junior here ar Pan Am. I have always taken online classes, but this Blog Site is new to me and still trying to get familiarized with it. It's pretty cool though. I have not taken a semester off since I started in 2008 and Its been pretty hard.,I work full time at PSJA ISD so I have summers off..I am also 8 months pregnant and is part of the reason why this summer I took one online class and one on-campus class.
